Marvel Heroes Rogue Server TAHITI Goes Buffs-First
Marvel Heroes was supposed to be gone. The game was sunsetted, its servers switched off, its roster of caped and cowled heroes left with nowhere to punch. Fans, as they often do, refused to accept that ending.
This past March, a rogue server called Project TAHITI went live and gave those players a way back in. Six months later, the volunteer team running it is getting ready for its next big step: an update scheduled for October 21st. Now we know one of the first things that patch is bringing. It's hero balancing, and the team is starting with buffs rather than nerfs.
Where TAHITI Stands Now
Rogue servers usually open with a flood of players, and TAHITI was no different. The launch rush has cooled a little since March, which was expected for any revived game running on nostalgia. But the server hasn't faded out. It has kept running, and the developers behind it have spent that time working on the October update they teased earlier.
It's worth remembering who is doing this work. TAHITI isn't a studio with a publisher and a marketing budget. It's a team of volunteers keeping a dead game alive because they want to play it, and because a lot of other people do too.
Lifting the Weakest Heroes
The balance details came through a post on the server's Discord. It doesn't go into much granular detail, but the overall direction is clear. The team wants to take characters that are underperforming and bring them up to a new standard it has set internally.
The point of all this goes beyond numbers. According to the developers, getting the roster onto level footing will help them "curate new and future content that stays true to one of the popular principles of MH, that every hero can complete the content."
That principle matters a great deal in a game built around a large roster of Marvel characters. When players pick a favorite hero, they want to take that hero into everything the game has to offer. They don't want to find out that someone else's main is the only practical choice. Raising the weaker heroes is the team's way of keeping that option open.
So most of the changes will be buffs. Nobody gets knocked down to make room for someone else. The characters at the bottom are the ones being pulled up.
Data, Hulk, and Taskmaster
The team isn't eyeballing any of this. Its Discord post included a look at an internal DPS log, which the developers are using to make data-driven adjustments. In other words, the numbers are guiding which heroes need help and by how much.
The post also previewed two reworks already in progress, one for Hulk and one for Taskmaster. Both follow the data from that log and the team's wider buffs-first philosophy. Visual snippets of the changes were shared alongside the announcement.
If you were hoping to get your hands on that DPS meter, you're out of luck. The developers have stated plainly that it will not be released to the public. It stays an internal tool.
More information is likely to keep coming through TAHITI's Discord between now and October 21st, so that's the place to keep an eye on for any patch notes ahead of launch.
Our Take
A buffs-first approach suggests the TAHITI team understands what its community actually wants. Players who came back to a sunsetted game aren't looking to see their favorite hero get worse. They came back to play the characters they loved. Pulling the weaker heroes up protects that, and the "every hero can complete the content" principle points toward a team focused on longevity rather than a quick splash.
It also fits a broader pattern of older games being kept going by the people who care most about them. Official live games like DC Universe Online keep adding events and new chapters, while studios elsewhere, such as the Elder Scrolls Online team after layoffs, admit the road can be difficult. TAHITI is doing similar long-term maintenance on volunteer time.
It is worth watching whether the Hulk and Taskmaster reworks land well on October 21st. How the community reacts to them could be a good sign of whether this data-driven balancing can carry the server into whatever new content comes next.
