Elder Scrolls Online Season 2 Dated, Two DLCs Join Base Game

October is always a busy month for Elder Scrolls Online, and this year is no exception. The MMORPG will once again throw itself into the Halloween spirit, which surprises nobody. The real news is tucked inside the game's monthly event calendar. Season 2: Echoes of Skyrim now has a firm release date of Wednesday, October 21st.

That date matters for more than one reason. Before the new season arrives, two older paid expansions will become part of the standard game. For anyone who has been circling Tamriel for a while without buying every add-on, that may be the bigger deal.

Greymoor and Wolfhunter Become Base Game Content

On October 19th, two days before Season 2 goes live, the Greymoor and Wolfhunter DLCs move into the base game. That shift brings a decent pile of content with it:

  • Western Skyrim, the zone introduced with Greymoor
  • The antiquities system, ESO's excavation and scrying feature
  • The Kyne's Aegis trial, a group raid encounter
  • The March of Sacrifices and Moon Hunter Keep dungeons, both from Wolfhunter

The timing is deliberate. Those two dungeons are central to what Season 2 is adding, so putting them in front of every player first clears the way for the update that follows.

What Echoes of Skyrim Adds

The headline features of Season 2 build directly on that newly unlocked content. March of Sacrifices and Moon Hunter Keep both get solo versions, so players who would rather not queue up with a group can still run them. There's also a brand-new region to explore, Eastern Skyrim, which sits nicely next to the Western Skyrim zone that everyone gets access to on October 19th.

And yes, there's a new battle pass packed with unlockables. That's become standard for the game's seasonal structure, and nobody should expect Season 2 to break from it.

The season itself runs from October 21st through January 27th, 2027. That gives players a little over three months to work through everything it offers.

The Rest of October

Echoes of Skyrim isn't the only thing on the calendar. The Witches Festival, ESO's annual Halloween event, returns on the same day as Season 2, October 21st. That means Halloween festivities and a fresh season are landing together, which should make for a crowded week in Tamriel.

Before that, there's still time to take part in the High Seas of Tamriel event. Golden Pursuits tied to that event stay available until October 14th, so anyone chasing those rewards has roughly two weeks left.

The whole month also doubles as TESOctober, a community celebration focused on fan creativity. Artistic players get a set of prompts to follow throughout October. It's a low-key addition next to a new season, but it gives the community side of the game some room to breathe.

The Bigger Picture

Moving Greymoor and Wolfhunter into the base game looks like a clear attempt to lower the barrier for players coming in fresh with Season 2. New players won't have to pay for older content just to make sense of the new region, and lapsed players have a reason to log back in. That makes the move about more than goodwill. It looks like a practical way to keep the player base together.

The context matters here. Only days ago, the team behind the game spoke openly about the hard road ahead after layoffs. Seen against that, solo versions of existing dungeons and DLC folded into the base game could point to a studio getting more mileage out of content it already has. That's not automatically a bad thing, but it is worth watching whether the new Eastern Skyrim region feels substantial or thin.

ESO also won't have October 21st to itself. The Lord of the Rings Online's Wolves of Mordor expansion launches on the same day, and seasonal events like the GTA Online Halloween lineup are competing for attention all month. How many players Echoes of Skyrim actually brings back is the number that will matter most.
