Project S.U.N.D.I.A.L. Takes Extraction Shooters Top-Down

Extraction shooters are everywhere right now. Pick a storefront, scroll for a minute, and you will find another game asking you to drop into a hostile zone, grab whatever loot you can carry, and get out before someone shoots you in the back. The formula works, but it has also started to blur together.

Ice Quake, which is both developing and publishing the game, thinks it has found a way to stand out. Project S.U.N.D.I.A.L. is a PvPvE extraction shooter played from a 2-D, top-down perspective. Its world is a ruined, post-apocalyptic Europe. If that setting and those initials ring a bell, that is probably deliberate. The game is essentially an attempt to rebuild the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience in a more old-school visual style.

Dune Awakening Gains 1M New Players After Console Launch

Funcom took a risk bringing Dune Awakening to consoles. Based on the first week, the bet appears to be working.

The studio says more than a million new players have entered the game over the past seven days. That is a big number for any survival MMO, and bigger still for one that started life on PC. PC players who have been waiting on the sidelines also get a nudge: Dune Awakening is 50% off on Steam until October 8th.

That headline leads a busy week across the wider multiplayer scene, so here is the rest of it.

Halloween season is in full swing

Mike Tomlin has spent a lot of time thinking about blueprints. Most of them involved linebackers.

As it turns out, plenty of them didn't. The longtime NFL coach, best known for his 19 seasons in charge of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has revealed that he has been quietly building a sprawling city in Minecraft for the past 12 years. Now he is finally showing it to the world, one video at a time.

For football fans, Tomlin's resume is familiar. He kept the Steelers respectable for nearly two decades, even if that run produced only a single championship ring. But the reveal of a decade-plus Minecraft project is a very different kind of legacy, and arguably a more relatable one for anyone who has ever lost a weekend to placing blocks.

Star Wars Galaxies Legends Galactic Moon Festival Returns

Star Wars Galaxies Legends has never been short on things to fear. Rancors will happily turn a careless adventurer into a snack. Ewoks are, depending on who you ask, either adorable or a menace. Starting Friday, October 9, there's one more reason to keep the lights on: the Galactic Moon Festival is back for 2026.

The Galactic Moon Festival is the game's Halloween event, and it's an old friend at this point. The announcement gives Friday, October 9 as the start date and says the festival runs through a Monday. However, the end date it lists is also October 9, which is almost certainly a typo. If you're planning your week around it, check the team's official channels for the actual closing date.

Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival Returns for October 2026

Some games arrive with a marketing blitz. Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival arrives the same way the first cold evening of autumn does: quietly, right on schedule, and with very little fuss.

The cozy Halloween multiplayer game is back online for the 2026 season. If you have never visited, the idea is simple. There is no grind and no ranked ladder. It's a seasonal hangout, and it knows exactly what it wants to be.
