Guild Wars 2: Mad King Returns, Living World Gets Bundled
Halloween season in Guild Wars 2 has a familiar face attached to it.
Shadow of the Mad King is back in Tyria, the game's world, and with it comes the usual seasonal slide into the strange. The Mad Realm has drifted closer to the world again, and the Mad King himself is once more the centerpiece of the festivities. This is one of those events long-time players can practically set their calendars by. But this year the bigger news may not be the pumpkins at all.
Alongside the spooky return, Guild Wars 2 has quietly changed how players get some of its most important story content. The Living World seasons, the chapters of story that sit between and around the game's expansions, are no longer sold on their own. They are now packaged in with the expansions instead. That's a meaningful shift, and arguably a more lasting one than any Halloween hat.
