NetEase Trademarks ECC: Redline, a Possible New MMORPG
NetEase has filed for something new, and the paperwork points squarely at MMO territory.
A trademark for "ECC: Redline" surfaced this past week on the USPTO. For readers outside the US, that's the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the federal agency that registers brand names and logos. Companies file there constantly, often long before a project is ready to be shown. A filing on its own isn't an announcement. When the name on the application is NetEase, though, it's worth a closer look.
What the filing actually says
The details are thin, but they are specific. The trademark classifies ECC: Redline as a multiplayer online computer game. That alone would get MMO fans talking. Another line goes further and lists "entertainment services, namely, providing massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPG)."
