Palia Spiritfest Returns With Ghostly Quests and Decor
Spiritfest is back in Palia.
September is almost over, and a surprising number of online games still haven't flipped the switch on their Halloween festivities. Palia is one of the later arrivals to the party, but it's hard to hold that against it. The returning Spiritfest event comes loaded with things to do, things to collect, and a frankly unreasonable number of spooky furnishings to cram into your homestead.
Ghost Hunting With Elousia
The core of the event revolves around Elousia and her bulletin board. Players pitch in by chasing down reports of spectral activity around the world. It's a simple hook, but it gives the season a clear sense of purpose beyond just shopping for decorations.
While you're out investigating, you'll gather two key materials: Ectoplasm and Tattered Cloth. These feed into the Spooky Moon store, which is where the real fun starts for anyone who treats their home plot as a creative project. The shop stocks coffins, bat roosts, and bottled poison, among other things. That last item might raise an eyebrow, but think about it for a second. Poison that isn't in a bottle would just end up all over the floor. The bottle is doing important work here.
Costumes, a New Cat, and Friendships
Spiritfest isn't only about decorating, though. Players can also take a stroll down the Path of the Ghastly, and dressing the part with suitable costumes is part of the appeal.
There's also a new Palcat joining the ranch, which will likely be the headline attraction for a good chunk of the community. Pets are rarely a hard sell, and a seasonal one tends to be even easier.
On the social side, the update lifts friendship level 5 for four characters: Ulfe, Hassian, Sifuu, and Taylin. For players who have been steadily building up relationships with the townsfolk, that's a meaningful bit of new progression tied to familiar faces rather than a throwaway seasonal gimmick.
Something for the Premium Store, Too
As expected, the premium store has also been refreshed. Some of the new items lean fully into the spooky theme, while others are more about general autumn fashion, the kind of outfits built for chilly weather rather than haunted graveyards. That split means players who aren't especially into ghouls and cobwebs still have something seasonal to look at.
The full patch notes cover everything in detail, and they're worth a look before diving in. Once you've read through them, the rest is straightforward: head out, hunt some ghosts, and grab every piece of ghoulish decor you can carry.
Our Take
Spiritfest looks like a well-rounded seasonal package rather than a bare-minimum reskin. The mix of event quests, a dedicated currency-driven store, a new pet, and fresh friendship levels suggests the team is trying to give players reasons to log in beyond simply buying cosmetics. The friendship level additions in particular stand out, since they offer progression that sticks around after the pumpkins come down.
It also fits a wider pattern across online games this autumn. Plenty of titles are leaning into seasonal content, from Fortnite bringing Five Nights at Freddy's to Fortnitemares to Guild Wars 2 rewarding players for leaving mounts behind in its own event. The competition for players' limited free time in October is fierce, and events like this are a big part of how games keep communities engaged.
What's worth watching is how the balance between the free event store and the refreshed premium shop lands with players. If the earnable decor feels generous, Spiritfest could be a strong retention tool. If the most desirable items end up behind the paywall, the reception may be more mixed.
