Black Desert Adds Level 75 Cap, Smooths XP Curve on PC

Black Desert's endgame climb has a reputation. Past a certain point, the experience bar stops behaving like a progress meter and starts to feel like a wall. Pearl Abyss is now trying to fix that on PC. This week's update reshapes how leveling works and, for the first time, gives the climb a real finish line.

A ceiling, finally

The studio is open about what it wants to change. "Previously, Black Desert had no level cap, while the EXP required to progress increased significantly at higher levels," Pearl Abyss explains. "With the revamp, leveling has been reworked to provide greater benefits and milestones, giving Adventurers a stronger sense of accomplishment as they progress."

In practice, the maximum character level rises from 70 to 75. Once a character reaches 75, it stops earning experience altogether. There is one exception: experience earned by a tagged character carries on as it did before, so that part of the system is unchanged.

A new top level brings the stat adjustments you would expect. Pearl Abyss has also adjusted how fast experience comes in from several different sources, which should even out the steep jumps players have complained about. The interface gets simpler too. The screens for character experience and monster zones have been cleaned up, and monster zones now tell you how much experience a character will earn there. That is a small change, but a useful one. Players no longer have to guess whether a farming spot is worth their evening.

Everything else on PC

Leveling is the headline, but the patch does more. Every class now gets the common skill. The current guild league season has wrapped up, quests in Inner Edania have been improved, and the usual round of fixes is included.

Halloween is also here. A screenshot-based costume party is running on the official forums right now, and a themed fashion show is set for October 16th. Neither will change the meta, but MMO communities have always enjoyed this kind of thing.

Black Desert Mobile cuts a zone

The mobile version has its own news this week, and the biggest change is a removal. The Frost Highlands area is gone. The reason is simple: players have been earning enough CP (Combat Power, the game's overall strength rating) to skip it entirely on their way to the Mountain of Eternal Winter. A zone that most people walk straight past is not doing much, and Pearl Abyss has accepted that.

The mobile patch also removes relics that were added by mistake and hands out relic chests to make up for them. It includes several class tweaks and a short list of bug fixes.

Our Take

The PC changes suggest that Pearl Abyss now sees open-ended grinding as a problem rather than a feature. An endless experience curve sounds generous on paper. In reality, it often makes high-level progress feel pointless, because every new level counts for less than the last. A hard cap at 75, together with clearer information in monster zones, gives players a visible goal and a better sense of what their time is worth.

Black Desert is not alone here. WoW Forever's beta raising its level cap shows how much weight caps still carry in MMO design. Meanwhile, Throne and Liberty's boosted drops point to a wider push to make progression feel less punishing. The removal of Frost Highlands on mobile fits the same pattern: content that players can skip without losing anything is being cleared away. It is worth watching whether the new XP rates actually smooth out the 70-plus grind, and whether Pearl Abyss sees level 75 as a permanent ceiling or just the next step.
