Aion 2 isn't even officially out yet, and NC is already handing out free stuff.
The free-to-play MMORPG is currently in early access, with its full launch set for October 5. To mark the occasion, NC has lined up a Twitch Drops campaign that runs until October 14. The idea is simple: watch other people play Aion 2 on Twitch, and you get items and cosmetics for your own account. No grinding or purchases are required. You just need a stream running in the background.
For anyone who has been following the game's rollout, from the Steam pre-download to the busy early access period, this is the next step in a launch window NC clearly wants to keep loud.
October is here, and live-service games are switching on the spooky lights. Some of these seasonal events lean towards the creepy, others towards the cute. Warframe, the free-to-play shooter, does a bit of both, and it is stacking several Halloween activities on top of each other this year.
Two of them are already live. A third arrives in the middle of the month. If you have been away from the Origin System for a while, this is a good time to log back in.
Nights of Naberus: Back to Daughter
The headline act is Nights of Naberus, Warframe's long-running Halloween celebration. The setup will be familiar to returning players. You head to the Cambion Drift, one of the game's open zones, and complete Bounties there. Those Bounties pay out Mother Tokens, which you then hand over to Daughter in exchange for event rewards.
Duet Night Abyss, the multiplayer gacha RPG, is now in the second half of its September update. If you've followed the game for a while, you know these mid-cycle drops rarely arrive with a pile of brand-new content. This one is no different. But there's enough here to be worth a look, especially if you log in every day and like to squeeze as much out of your time as possible.
Here's what has gone live this week, and why some of it matters more than it might first appear.
The Nights of Naberus, the game's annual spooky-season celebration, is live again. It brings new cosmetics, a ghost-punching seasonal alert and the return of a familiar trader in costume. There is also a slight chill in the air, though it's not clear whether that comes from October or from the ice-themed Warframe that arrived in the most recent patch.
That frame came with the Iceblade of Narin update, and its frosty theme makes an odd but fitting neighbour for a festival about ghosts and treats. Either way, Digital Extremes' sci-fi looter shooter is leaning into the season, and the event runs long enough that nobody needs to rush.
March of Giants is about to get its biggest public outing yet.
Ubisoft's in-development MOBA, which was recently handed over to Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment, will run an open playtest on Steam starting October 7. The studio calls it the "pioneer playtest," and it stays open until October 18. That's not a long window, but it's far more access than the game has offered so far.
Who can play, and how
The test is open to players in North America and in what the developers describe as "supported European countries." Server locations match each region. If you live outside those areas, this test probably isn't for you.
