WoW Forever Video Puts the Undead Paladin in the Spotlight

Blizzard has plenty of new toys to show off in World of Warcraft Forever. Six of them, to be exact. But if you watch the latest promotional video for the game, you might come away thinking there is only one that really matters: the Undead Paladin.

That is not a knock on the other five. It is simply where the attention goes. The "Classic Plus" version of World of Warcraft Forever is adding six new class and race combinations, and the studio has clearly picked its headliner. The Undead Paladin gets the long, careful introduction. Everyone else gets a quick wave on the way past.

Why the Forsaken Need Explaining

There is a good reason for the imbalance, to be fair. A Paladin is a strange fit for the Forsaken, and Blizzard knows that fans will ask the obvious question. How does an undead character end up in a class so closely tied to the Light?

Blizzard's answer is short and sharp. For the Forsaken, being a Paladin is about retribution, not light. It is a neat bit of framing, and it gives the combination its own identity. These characters aren't holy warriors in the traditional sense. They are fighting for something darker and more personal.

The class has also been set up outside the MMORPG itself. The backstory for the Undead Paladin arrives through Warcraft III: Forsaken Kingdom, a DLC that came out this past month. So the video isn't building the concept from nothing. It is paying off groundwork Blizzard had already laid, which goes some way to explaining why the studio was willing to spend so much of its running time on a single combo.

The Other Five

Once the Forsaken explanation is done, the video picks up speed. The remaining new combinations are:

  • Dwarf Shaman
  • Orc Mage
  • Human Hunter
  • Troll Warlock
  • Gnome Priest

None of them gets the extended treatment. They are presented quickly, one after another, and then the video moves on. Some players will be perfectly happy with that. Others may have been waiting on one of these five in particular and could feel a little short-changed by how briefly each one appears.

Still, the list is interesting on its own. None of these pairings is a wild reinvention on paper. Each is a new option that players of this version haven't had before, and that alone gives people a reason to roll a fresh character.

A Mega Dungeon Tease

The class news wasn't the only thing on the table. Lead developer Josh Greenfield also dropped a hint about content that could be coming to World of Warcraft Forever down the line. He teased "a good [Blackrock Depths]-like mega dungeon" that may be in the works.

That comparison is doing a lot of work. Blackrock Depths is the benchmark Greenfield chose, and it signals that the team is thinking big rather than small when it comes to dungeon design. He didn't stop at words, either. Alongside the comment, he shared an image of a bear-themed cave entrance with a meeting stone sitting next to it.

That is all there is for now. No name, no date, no confirmation that it is definitely happening. Just a picture, a comparison, and a phrase that suggests it "could be" on the way. For a community that tends to pick apart every screenshot, though, that is more than enough to get people talking.

What It Adds Up To

Taken together, the video and the tease give a clearer sense of what Blizzard wants World of Warcraft Forever to be. The new combos are the immediate hook. The mega dungeon, if it materialises, would be the longer-term reason to stick around.

Our Take

The way Blizzard is handling the Undead Paladin suggests the studio sees World of Warcraft Forever as more than a nostalgia trip. Tying a new class combo to a Warcraft III DLC is a cross-promotion play, and it hints at a broader strategy of linking Blizzard's older games together rather than treating each one as a separate island. That fits with how the company has been keeping other long-running titles alive, from Diablo 4's ongoing seasons to fresh Heroes of the Storm content.

For players, the real question is balance. It is worth watching whether the other five combos get the same care in-game that the Undead Paladin got in the trailer, or whether they end up feeling like extras. The mega dungeon is the bigger unknown. Greenfield's tease is promising, but it remains a tease. Until Blizzard names it or dates it, the bear-themed cave is best treated as a hopeful sign rather than a promise.
