RuneFest Saturday: Dragonwilds Roadmap and RuneScape 2027

RuneFest Saturday: Dragonwilds Roadmap and RuneScape 2027

RuneFest is back, and Jagex has a lot to say.

The studio's convention for RuneScape fans takes place this Saturday, October 3. Whether you have a ticket or plan to watch from home, the schedule is worth knowing ahead of time. RuneFest has become the moment each year when Jagex lays out where its games are heading, and this edition covers three of them in a single day.

Dragonwilds gets the opening slot

Things kick off at 9 AM Eastern, or 6 AM Pacific. For anyone tuning in from Europe or Asia, that means a midday or evening session depending on where you live. The first panel is the RuneScape: Dragonwilds Summit, which is the first time Dragonwilds has had a summit of its own at the show.

It runs for around an hour. In that time, the developers will reveal the game's first roadmap and explain what players can expect after the 1.0 release. That's the main reason to tune in early. A first roadmap is a statement of intent: it shows whether a studio has a long-term plan for a game, or whether it's still working one out as it goes.

Awards, then the main event

After Dragonwilds, the Golden Gnome Awards take the stage. These are the show's awards, and they sit between the more forward-looking panels in the running order.

Next comes the RuneScape Summit. This is where players of the free-to-play MMORPG will get a look at what Jagex has planned for 2027. That's a big window, and it arrives at a busy time for the game. RuneScape players have only just settled into the Havenhythe Part II update, which the studio billed as its largest-ever area expansion. Jagex also cleaned house before that update landed, and players are keeping an eye on the upcoming removal of microtransaction items. A 2027 outlook gives the community a chance to see how those pieces fit into a longer plan.

The day ends with the OSRS Summit. OSRS is the community's shorthand for Old School RuneScape, the separate version of the game built around the classic experience. Its panel will look at what's next for that game too. Old School players have had their own share of headlines lately, including the Grand Exchange breaking its old cap, so expect plenty of interest in this final slot.

Attending in person or watching online

If you're at the venue, there's more to do than sit through panels. Attendees can pick up merch, meet developers and content creators, and take part in other activities around the show floor.

If you didn't get a ticket, you won't miss the big reveals. Every panel will be streamed on Twitch and YouTube, so the roadmap, the 2027 plans and the Old School news will all be available to watch live.

Our Take

The running order tells you a lot about Jagex's priorities. Putting Dragonwilds first, with its own summit for the first time, suggests the studio wants it seen as a franchise pillar rather than a side project. A first roadmap after 1.0 is the clearest test of that. It's worth watching whether the plan offers concrete content beats or stays vague.

For RuneScape players, the 2027 look matters because the game is in the middle of real change: a major expansion and a planned removal of microtransaction items. Readers should look for signs that those moves are part of a consistent direction rather than one-off fixes.

Old School closes the show, as it often does, and that community tends to judge news harshly. How Jagex balances three audiences in one day may say more about the studio's future than any single announcement.
