Arknights: Endfield October 15 Update Adds Si, Argent Flow

The Endministrator is not well. That's the headline of Arknights: Endfield's next chapter, and it's the thread Gryphline is pulling on as the free-to-play action RPG heads into its October 15 update.

The publisher laid out the details during a new Special Program broadcast today. The last update was more of a side trip, a smaller adventure that stepped away from the main plot. This one doesn't. It drags players straight back into the core storyline and puts the Endmin's deteriorating health front and center.

A trip to Yuanyuan Manor

The person stepping in to help is Si, a Feranmut Proxy who has offered to treat the Endmin. There's a catch, of course: the treatment can't happen just anywhere. Si wants to bring the Endmin to Yuanyuan Manor, a location that sits inside a realm she built herself using her painting abilities.

This isn't a single building or a small instance. Gryphline describes the painted realm as a full region in its own right, complete with its own set of troubles. And those troubles don't appear to be random. According to the Special Program, they seem to be connected to whatever is wrong with the Endmin in the first place.

There's also a promise of backstory. The update looks set to shed more light on the Endmin's past, which should be welcome news for anyone who has been following the main story and waiting for answers.

Two new Operators join the roster

Si isn't just a plot device. She's also the first of two new Operators arriving with the update, and her kit sounds genuinely interesting.

She's built as a support character, but one that can still deal damage. Her signature trick is pulling an "Inksoul" out of enemies. She then uses that Inksoul to hurt the actual enemy it came from, and that includes targets she couldn't otherwise reach. On top of that, Si provides buffs to teammates who use Cryo and Heat, which makes her an obvious pick for squads already leaning on those elements.

The second Operator is Argent Flow, described as another old friend of the Endministrator. Argent Flow fights with a mix of sword and spear techniques and can also attack while mounted on a warhorse. That last detail alone should make Argent Flow stand out from the pack. Gryphline says players will learn more about this Operator through a separate piece of story content rather than in the main chapter.

Events and quality-of-life fixes

Beyond the story and new characters, the update brings back Contingency Contract, a returning mode that veteran players will recognise. Gryphline is also adding a handful of new casual events alongside it. The standout here is one that has players running a countryside inn - a low-stakes change of pace from saving the world and worrying about the Endmin's condition.

Then there are the smaller fixes, which are often the ones players actually care about the most day to day. The update adds saved equipment loadouts, so swapping gear between setups should become less of a chore. Mouse targeting is getting improvements as well, which matters for anyone playing with a keyboard and mouse. Gryphline also mentions further quality-of-life tweaks beyond those two, though it didn't list them all.

What to expect on October 15

Put together, the update covers a lot of ground:

  • A return to the main story, focused on the Endmin's health and past
  • A new region: Si's painted realm, home to Yuanyuan Manor
  • Two new Operators: Si, a damage-dealing support, and Argent Flow, a mounted sword-and-spear fighter
  • The return of Contingency Contract
  • New casual events, including a countryside inn
  • Saved equipment loadouts, better mouse targeting and other quality-of-life changes

Our Take

This update reads like Gryphline playing to its strengths. After a detour, the studio is putting the main story back on the table, and it's doing so with a hook that has been building for a while: the Endmin's health. Tying a brand new region directly to that mystery is a smart move. It suggests Yuanyuan Manor is meant to be more than a pretty backdrop for a new character banner.

It's also worth noting how much of this update is aimed at long-term players. Saved loadouts and better mouse targeting aren't flashy, but they're exactly the kind of changes that keep people logging in once the novelty of a new region wears off. The return of Contingency Contract points the same way.

Arknights: Endfield isn't alone here. Other free-to-play titles in the same space have been leaning on new areas and returning events this season, from the Neverness to Everness patch that opened Pukaland to Duet Night Abyss bringing back Bountiful Day. Competition for players' attention is fierce, and a story-heavy update is one way to stand out.

The big question is whether the painted realm delivers. It is worth watching whether Si's region actually answers some of the questions about the Endmin, or simply sets up more of them. And Argent Flow's separate story content could turn out to be the sleeper hit of the patch. We'll find out on October 15.
