m0NESY Signs Falcons Contract Extension Through 2030
Team Falcons just won their first Major. Now they've made sure the player who did the most to win it isn't going anywhere.
The organisation has extended Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov's contract through 2030, a multi-year deal announced on Monday, October 12, according to HLTV, the Counter-Strike news and statistics site. The Russian AWPer, which is Counter-Strike shorthand for a team's dedicated sniper, was the standout player of IEM Cologne, the Major that Falcons won in June. He took home the event's MVP award for his trouble.
What the deal is worth is anyone's guess. Neither Falcons' announcement nor HLTV's report included any financial details. But the length of the deal tells its own story.
From Blockbuster Signing to Major MVP
It's easy to forget how much pressure came with m0NESY's arrival. He joined Falcons from G2 Esports in April 2025, in a transfer HLTV called a blockbuster move. Expensive star signings are supposed to deliver silverware quickly. That didn't happen right away.
The 21-year-old had to wait for his first trophy in Falcons colours. When it came, though, it came at the top. Cologne was a Major, one of the Valve-sponsored events that sit at the very top of the Counter-Strike calendar, and m0NESY wasn't just along for the ride. He was the best player there.
His overall numbers back that up. HLTV puts his average rating at 1.29 across his time with the team. That's the kind of consistency that makes a long-term contract feel less like a gamble and more like common sense.
A Roster Built on Big Names
m0NESY isn't the only headline act in the lineup. Falcons field veteran in-game leader Finn "karrigan" Andersen alongside Nikola "NiKo" Kovač, René "TeSeS" Madsen and Maksim "kyousuke" Lukin. Danny "zonic" Sørensen coaches the side.
That's a roster packed with experience and firepower, and the Cologne win showed what it can do when it clicks. Locking in m0NESY gives the club a fixed point to build around as it tries to turn one Major into several.
It also stands out in a scene where lineups rarely sit still for long. Just look at how quickly Astralis benched HooXi and jabbi after a tournament win. Falcons are going the other way and doubling down.
What Comes Next for Falcons
The schedule isn't giving them much time to celebrate. As reigning Major champions, Falcons now have a title to defend, and HLTV reports that the next Major will be held in Singapore.
Before that, there's plenty of work to do. Falcons begin their run at the Thunderpick World Championship on October 14, which is now their immediate priority. IEM Beijing is also on the calendar ahead of the Major. Both should give a decent read on whether the Cologne version of this team is the real thing or a peak they'll struggle to hit again.
Our Take
This one is fairly simple: Falcons have their franchise player, and they've made it official.
For fans, the 2030 end date matters more than the trophy itself. A contract that long suggests the club sees m0NESY as the face of its Counter-Strike project for years, not just for this cycle. Given his age and his form, that's hard to argue with. Long deals also make a player harder to pry away, which looks like the point.
There's a wider context worth keeping in mind, too. Top organisations are pouring money into CS2 rosters and chasing prize pools, as seen when Vitality climbed past NAVI in all-time prize money. At the same time, the game itself has seen its player count slide for seven straight months. Teams are still betting big on the competitive side even as the broader numbers wobble, and Falcons' move fits that pattern.
The real question is what happens next. Can a roster this stacked stay hungry after finally getting its Major? Thunderpick and IEM Beijing will give early hints. Singapore, where Falcons will try to defend their crown, is where this extension gets its first true test. It's worth watching whether m0NESY can carry his Cologne form into those events, or whether rivals have already started working out how to shut him down.
